Born Oct. 30, 1926, in Tazewell County to Roy and Letha Beimfohr Runyon, he married Doris Clark on May 20, 1990, in Peoria. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Daniel (and Karen) Runyon and Clark (and Andrea) Ingwersen; four daughters, Susan (and Michael) Runyon-Davis, Carol Runyon, Tricia (and Joel) Postma and Lea Anne (and Scott) Schmidgall; two brothers, Donald and Keith; and one sister, Rose Lu Popovich.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Sarah Marie Runyon, one brother and one sister.
An Army veteran, he served as a commanding officer of the 12th Special Forces, until retiring as colonel.
He also worked as CEO of Maxam Gold Corp.
Burial will be in Runyon Family Cemetery.
