Born Dec. 19, 1901, in Hopedale to Amos and Mattie Mast Sutter, he married Marie Litwiller on Dec. 27, 1923, in Hopedale. He later married Irene Finney Vogel. She died in 1973.
One sister also preceded him in death.
Surviving are three sons, Lyle of Flanagan, Francis of Morton and Gene of Sun City West, Ariz.; and two sisters, Sadie and Verna Nafziger, both of Hopedale.
He was a painting contractor in Hopedale in the 1930s, and later worked as a carpenter.
He was a member of Hopedale Mennonite Church.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
