Daughter of Jonathan J. Wells and Fannie Glover, wife of Thomas Jones Billard, a teacher at the Locust Grove School, whom she married on December 25, 1877 in Cutchogue, NY, and mother of Henry Osborn "Harry", Mae Goldsmith (married Andrew Russell Brown), Hettie T. (married Wallace Bruce Merwin), and George Herbert Billard.

In 1960, Mary Wells, aged 6, was living in Southold, NY, with her father, Jonathan Wells, aged 30, a farmer, in the home of her grandparents, Luther T. Wells, aged 61, a farmer, and Polly Wells, aged 58. Also living in the household were siblings George Wells, aged 3, and Emma Wells, aged 1, and Steina Dunker, aged 15.

In 1900, Mary Billard, aged 45, was living in Southold, NY, with her husband, Thomas Billard, aged 49, and children, Harry Billard, aged 20, May Billard, aged 15, Hettie Billard, aged 11, and Herbert Billard, aged 7. Her husband was shown to be a sexton.

In 1910, Mary M. Billard, aged 55, was living on Northridge Street, Brookhaven, NY, with her husband, Thomas J. Billard, aged 60, and their children, May G., aged 25, and Hettie T. Billard, aged 22. Her husband was shown to be a janitor at a church.

In 1920, Mary M. Billard, aged 65, was living on Shelton Avenue, in Queens, NY, in the home of her son, George H. Billard, aged 26, and his wife, Marian Billard, aged 28 and their daughter, Ethel R. Billard, aged 11 months. Her son, George, was shown to be a trainman for the railroad. Also living in the household was Laura C. Redhead, aged 64, the widowed mother of Marian Billard.

Obituary - Mrs. Mary M. Billard, wife of Thomas J. Billard, of Southampton, died in Brooklyn yesterday, aged 70. Funeral services will be held at the Presbyterian Church in Cutchogue Saturday afternoon at 1:30 and the interment will be in the Cutchogue Cemetery.

Also - The body of Mrs. Thomas Billard was brought from her home in Brooklyn last week and funeral services took place in the Presbyterian Church, Rev. Beebe officiating. Mrs. Billard was known here years ago by the name Mrs. Mary Wells. She was pleasant and kind. Her husband was one of the old Suffolk County public school teachers.
