"Patrick Charley , janitor in the public schools of La Salle for the past sixteen years, died rather suddenly this morning at his home, Sixth and Berlin streets. Mr. Charley has been ailing off and on for the past few years and the last month his condition was somewhat serious. He was up and around yesterday and at four o'clock this morning the change for the worse came. He failed rapidly and was dead in two hours.
"Mr Charley, was an engineer by occupation and was employed at the LaSalle shaft in that capacity a number of years. Sixteen years ago he was appointed by the board of education as janitor at the Lincoln School and he has since been employed at that building, at the Washington and Jackson schools. He was stationed at the latter at the time of his demise.
"He leaves to mourn his death, his wife, formerly, Miss Mary McHugh, whom he married in La Salle about thirty five years ago and one son, Frank M, now in Chicago. There are the following children from his first marriage: William H Charley, Chicago; Mrs. Mary Witon, La Salle; Mrs. Margaret Tucker, Oberlin, O.; four grandchildren and six great grandchildren reside in Chicago.
"The funeral will take place Monday morning from the residence to St. Patrick's church where requiem mass will be celebrated. Internment will take place in St. Vincent's cemetery." Source: The La Salle Daily Tribune and Peru Evening Press, Saturday , December 2,1916

"The funeral of the late Patrick Charley, janitor in La Salle pubic schools for the past sixteen years was held this morning from the residence , Sixth and Berlin street. Requiem high mass was celebrated by Father D.D. Lane and internment was made in St. Vincent's cemetery. In respect to the deceased janitor there was no sessions in the Jackson school grades this morning.
"Mr and Mrs. William Charley and sons, Joseph and Edward, Frank M. Charley, all of Chicago, and Mrs. Margaret Tucker, Oberlin, O., arrived in La Salle to attend the funeral.
