Bettye Estelle Moore Green was born the 18th of December 1928 and died on Monday, the 22nd of August 2016. She was the daughter of the late George Glasscock and Constance Lockart Moore of Houston, Texas and El Dorado, Arkansas, native Texans and members of Republic of Texas families. Bettye was baptized, confirmed and married in St. Mary's Episcopal Church in El Dorado, Arkansas. She was the widow of Mangham Leonard Green, an architect.
Bettye attended Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri and graduated with a degree in Religion and Philosophy from Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas. She was employed by Murphy Corporation in El Dorado and was a charter member of the Desk and Derrick Club before her marriage.
Bettye was a member of the American Institute of Architects Auxiliary. Genealogy research was her hobby, researching lines to patriotic lineages and was a charter member of Clayton Library Friends. Bettye played bridge for many years before and after moving to Clarewood House. An avid reader of mystery books, she was one of the librarians at Clarewood House for many years.
Bettye is survived by her daughter, Constance Hardaway and her husband Derald; her son, George Green and his wife Carol; her granddaughters, Victoria Tagliabue Mathews and her husband Corey, Jennifer and Angela Green; her grandson, Darrel Green; and her great grandson; Sam Mathews.
The family will gather for a private interment at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery in Houston.
In lieu of usual remembrances, memorial contributions may be directed to Clarewood House Library Fund, 7400 Clarewood Drive, Houston, Texas, 77035.
