Agnes M. Harris, 81, passed away Tuesday, September 28, 2010 at the Afton Care Center.

Agnes Mae Harris, daughter of Clayton Walter LaPorte and Emma Olive (Daniel) LaPorte was born January 12, 1929 in Taylor Co., Iowa. She graduated from Creston High School in 1947 and later got her teaching certificate and began teaching at Lincoln #2 for one year and Lincoln #5 for a year. On July 16, 1949 she was united in marriage to Howard C. Harris in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She began working at the Creston Hospital in 1970 until she retired.

Agnes was a devoted housewife, and mother, nurse-aide and surgical technician. Agnes sang with the Singing Seniors at many meal sites and care centers. She was always willing to lend a helping hand. She enjoyed gardening, sewing and cooking and enjoyed several camping trips and bus trips with Howard over the years. Agnes was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Creston; past member and leader of the Union County 4-H and Union County 4-H president in 1946.

Survivors include her husband, Howard of Afton; four children, Stanley (wife Rita) Harris of Creston, Elaine (husband Joe) Cobler of Euless, Tex, daughter in-law, Kay Harris of Gower, Mo. and Rodney (wife Becky) Harris of Creston; 9 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law: Kay Harris of Gower, Mo.; one sister: Pearl (husband Clare) Frizell of Greenfield; one sister-in-law: Celia Caldwell of Altus, Okla. and one brother-in-law: Dean Molln of Winterset, Ia.

Agnes was preceded in death by her parents; son Ricky Harris; her sister: Betty Molln and two brothers: Russell and Walter LaPorte.
