Private William EAST- son of Silas East and Harriet Canty Houze, was born in 1841 in Clarke Co GA and was a twin of sister, Malinda East Snow. In 1860 he was a boarder in the L C Thomas home in Walton Co. He was 19 years old when he joined the 44th as a private on March 17, 1862. Died of disease in Richmond, Va., July 1862 at CHIMBORAZO HOSPITAL, C. S. A.
