Son of Jacob & Magdalena (Heiser) Adams, he married Charlotte Beck ca. 1840 in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, and fathered Susanna (b. 03/14/44, d. 04/05/45), Heinrich B. (b. 04/01/45), Josiah B. "Jessie" (b. 11/16/46), Jeremiah (b. 04/16/54), and Salinda (b. 11/26/55). Charlotte died July 3, 1856. In 1860, he was a plasterer living in Ephrata Township, Lancaster County, and stood 5' 7" tall with dark hair and dark eyes. The 1860 census does not list his children living with him.
He married Sarah L. Phillips, née Southworth, April 15, 1866, and fathered Lillie (b. 09/30/72, d. 04/30/73). By 1870, he was a farmer living with Sarah and son Jeremiah in Clayton County, Iowa, but shortly thereafter moved to Nebraska, settling in Colfax County.
