Mr. Hazel Randolph Adams passed away August 4, 2016. He was born June 14, 1926. He was the son of Henry J. and Daisy Adams. He is survived by his wife, Frances M. Adams of almost 70 years of marriage; his daughter, his son, six grandchildren, and twelve great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by two sisters and one brother, Dora Caskey Branman, Matrell Small Robinson and Woodrow Adams. Also six half-brothers, RB Adams, Ben Adams, Roach Adams, Doc Adams, Dewey Adams, Edgar Hilton and two half-sisters, Lilly Mae Blackmon and Peggy Knight.

He had a very deep love of his Lord and Jesus, wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He served his country during WWII with great love and passion. He joined the Navy at the age of seventeen in 1943 and was honorably discharged January 22, 1946. He served aboard the US Strategy; a mine sweeper; in the Pacific Rim as a Ship’s Cook, Second Class. In his first year of service he contracted rheumatic fever and begged the Navy not to discharge him on medical discharge, because he loved his country so much; not to fight for its freedom and safety wasn’t an option for him. While he served in the Navy, he received two Bronze Stars and nine bars.

After his military service, he came back to Lancaster and married his wife and started a business as a Barber in uptown Lancaster, The Friendly Barber Shop, and later worked part time at the Post Office and cut hair as well. When he retired, he also opened a Barber Shop he built next to his home in the Camp Creek Community and cut hair until his final retirement in June 2008.

He loved his Church and worked diligently in all capacities of the church. His family meant the world to him. He loved all the people he met and loved working in his garden and giving vegetables to people in the community.

He also loved playing music at different places, but most of all at nursing homes. He built a private music room by his barber shop to practice and pray about his music. He was always writing songs and encouraged any of the family as well as friends who knew music to play and sing with him. He also liked to tinker and build things; such as the house he and his wife lived in all their life. He was always willing to use his talents and skills to help others in the community that needed help.

Mr. Adams will leave many memories that are loved by his family and will be missed greatly. He is the last of the Adams brothers and sisters; and his legacy will be remembered along with the generations of the Adams family before him.

The Celebration of Life Graveside Funeral Service for Mr. Adams will be Saturday, August 6, 2016 at Camp Creek Baptist Church Cemetery by LW Bell. The family will receive friends following the graveside service in the church fellowship hall.
