Gailen Wayne Smith, 77, died Wednesday, January 5, 2005 at Fleur Heights Care Center. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 8 at Ankeny Funeral Home, with burial at Elkhart Cemetery.
Wayne was a volunteer at the Elkhart Fire Department and a past Fire Chief. He also served as a past Elkhart Police Chief.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Veda Smith; daughter, Vickie (John) Preston; sister, Lois Stuart; and nieces and nephews.
Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Ankeny Funeral Home.
