"JOHN QUINN PASSED AWAY ON SATURDAY - Old Resident of Titusville Died at Erie - John Quinn, aged 82 years, for the greater part of his life a resident of Titusville, died Saturday night in St Mary's Home for the Aged at Erie. He sustained a stroke of paralysis on Thursday and information of his serious condition was forwarded to Titusville immediately. Neil FIsher, who had been a friend of Mr Quinn for many years, went to Erie and remained with the aged gentleman until his death. Funeral Director Frank H Flanders went to Erie yesterday, prepared the body for burial and accompanied by Mr Fisher will bring it here this morning at 10 o'clock. The funeral services will be held at a time to be announced later. Mr Quinn, who was born in Ireland, had lived a life of many vicissitudes and cares and sorrows. He came to this country when a young man, married and settled in Canada. He first came to Titusville at the time the Western New York and Pennsylvania railroad was builded (sic) through this section. He was employed upon the railroad for many years as a laborer, and then for a long time as a watchman at the South Franklin street gates across the PRR. When he left the latter position it was to carry the mail between the Pennsy station and the postoffice. After a few years, when he had become too feeble for this occupation, he was made janitor at the postoffice, a place which he filled until his advancing years made it imperative to go to the Catholic institution at Erie, which is managed by the SIsters of St Joseph. Mr Quinn at the time of the great flood and fire of 1892 lived with his family on the north side of Mechanic street, where the boiler shop of the Titusville Iron company now stands. His home was swept away in the flood and his wife and two daughters perished. He was the father of seven sons, Michael, John, Patrick, Stephen, George, Thomas and William. Six of them are dead, only the one last named being alive. He was in Titusville Saturday and went to Erie in the afternoon. It is said that Mr Quinn was the father of twelve children and that he has wept over the graves of eleven of them, one son alone remaining in his old age. He was an honest and an honorable man, one of whom his neighbors liked and trusted and one whom it was a pleasure to speak with and know from day to day. He was a member of St Titus' Catholic church and of the CMBA."

"BREVITIES - Funeral services in remembrance of the late John Quinn, who passed away Saturday evening at St Mary's Home for the Aged in Erie, were conducted Wednesday morning. Father Thomas W Cavanaugh, pastor of St Titus' congregation, solemnized a high mass of requiem at 9 o'clock. He spoke briefly of the life of the deceased, his honest work and his Christian character. There was a large attendance of friends. HIs son, William Quinn, was present for the services. A good many members of Branch 1, CMBA, were present in a body to do the old gentleman a last honorable service. The interment was made in St Catherine's cemetery and the pall was borne to its last resting place by John Kelly, John Callahan, John Purtill, Martin Lynch, Walter Brazil and James Foley."
