Bruce was the son of John Anderson and Emeline Hatfield, who married on 5 Apr 1862 in Kosciusko Co., Indiana. Per Emeline on the 1900 Census, the couple had a dozen children together. I found the names for ten—Bruce (c.1863), Orpha (1865), Della (3 Mar 1867), Harvey William (2 Jun 1869), Edward (c.1872), Mary (c.1874), Ida Pearl (1879), Lucinda (27 Apr 1880), Huldah Edith (26 Feb 1882), and Noah (13 Apr 1886).

I found the family on the 1870 Census, living in Seward Township, Kosciusko Co., Indiana, with a Silver Lake Post Office. John Anderson, aged 28, was farming for a living. Emeline, aged 24, already had four little ones running around—Bruce, aged 7, Orpha, aged 4, Della, aged 3, and William (aka Harvey), aged 1. In 1880, the family was zoned into Harrison Township in Kosciusco County. John, aged 37, was busy with the family farm. Emeline, aged 33, would have had her hands full at home tending to their eight children—Bruce, aged 17, Orpha, aged 14, Della, aged 13, Harvey, aged 11, Edward, aged 8, Mary, aged 6, Ida, aged 1, and Lucinda, aged 2 months. Daughter Huldah would join the family two years later on 26 Feb 1882.

Six years after that census, Bruce married Mary L. (Lucretia?) Pittman on 6 Nov 1886 in Kosciusko Co., Indiana. I found two children for them—John Adam (17 May 1889) and Grace Flo (15 Mar 1896), but there may have been as many as four others.

Tragically, four months after Flo's birth, Bruce died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound while hunting in the woods north of Bourbon. He was only about 33 years old. I am not yet positive that Bruce was buried in this cemetery, but it is a best guess based on where he died and where his parents were eventually buried.

Bruce's widow Mary remarried on 19 Sep 1898 in Kosciusko County, exchanging vows with Salathiel S. Mellott. It was also a second marriage for Salathiel. He had previously married Mary Fawley and they had at least six children together before Mary died on 2 Aug 1891. Their blended family appeared together on the 1900 Census.
