Portsmouth - - Onie J. Pennell, Jr., 87, died February 11, 2015. A native of Chase City, VA, he retired after 42 years with Tidewater Metro Transit. Onie was a member and deacon of Grove Park Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Louise Worsley Pennell; two daughters, Mary Lou Stiltner (James) and Barbara Johnson; two sons, Richard L. Pennell and Tommy Pennell (Toby); two sisters, Bernice Reese and Eunice Lowe; sister-in-law, Peggy Gray (Sydney); two brothers-in-law, Harvey Wheeler and Buddy Worsley (Anita); 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, Feb. 16, at 2 PM in Grove Park Baptist Church by Pastor Scott Pond. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 4-5 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grove Park Baptist Church. www.SturtevantFuneralHome.com
