John William Magruder

Born- Nov. 2, 1845 at Woodstock, Va.
Father- William Wilson Magruder; Mother- Mary Susan Williams

VMI Record:
Entered VMI- Feb. 8, 1862;
Given furlough May 29, 1862, but did not return to VMI.

Civil War Record:
Drilled boys at Randolph-Macon Military Academy while on furlough from VMI;
Captured at an unknown time and place, but released because of his youth;

Unofficial source says he acted as a courier at Gen. Robert E. Lee's Head Quarters during the winter of 1863-64, then joined Co. C of 7th Va. Cavalry as a Private, but no official record of such service is found.

Served as officer (Captain, Major, Lt. Col.) in the 2nd Va. in Va. National Guard 1893-98.
