FLANNIKEN -- Tanglewood, Lee Co., Tex., March 2. -- Died, at his old home in this place, Robert Hood Flanniken, in his 78th year. Mr. Flanniken was born in Mecklenburg county, N.C., July 18, 1819. He came to Texas in 1840, landing in Galveston in June of that year. He settled first in Caldwell, then the county seat of old Milam district, where he was soon elected sheriff, and continued in that office until Texas was annexed. He married in 1846 Margaret Wilson, a daughter of Rev. Hugh Wilson, one of the earliest pioneers of Texas, and settled in Washington county, from where he removed in 1851 to this county (then Burleson), where he has resided ever since. Mr. Flanniken served in Waul's legion through the late civil war. He was well known by early Texas settlers as a man of high probity and honor, and did much for the upbuilding of the Presbyterian church in this state. The Galveston Daily News.
