Born in Carencro and raised as a true son of Louisiana in Lafayette, George Allen Landry was the second son of George and Bertha Richard Landry. George earned his B.S. in Geology from Southwestern Louisiana Institute (SLI). He served in the United States Air Force from 1955 to1959. After leaving the Air Force he served as a Louisiana State Trooper prior to taking a position with the Louisiana State Highway Department in the area of Traffic Control. An avid outdoorsman, George taught his son and grandsons, Gary, Justin, and Brennan how to hunt and fish in the woods and waterways of Louisiana. George was active in many professional and social organizations throughout his life and has been recognized for his work and leadership by many of these including: The Kiwanis Club of Lafayette (where he served as President), LARC, the Lafayette Chamber of Commerce, and Krewe of Triton. Most importantly, George was the patriarch of his family. He was a great father and grandfather to all and offered compassion, strength, and guidance to his children and grandchildren.
