During his life he served in the United States Navy in World War II and as a teacher and administrator at Holland Christian Schools. For 23 years he served as principal of Zeeland Christian School before retiring in 1987. After his retirement, he and his wife, Lucille, to whom he was married for 57 years, gave volunteer service for World Renew Disaster Relief Services, Desert Christian School in Tucson, AZ, the Christian Reformed Conference Grounds and numerous other Christian organizations. Most recently he served as a volunteer day manager at Bibles for Mexico where he actively worked until the week before his death. His family praises God for his faith in Christ that was a wonderful blessing to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His legacy to family and friends is that our lives are a gift from God to be given to others in service through acts of love in Jesus. As we celebrate his life, we find comfort in his passing in the words of Christ in the text of the last devotional he read before his death, "Well done, good and faithful servant."
He is survived by his children, and by 11 grand-children; and 16 great grand-children. He is also survived by his siblings, and sister-in-law. He is also survived by his brother-in law.
Visitation with the family will be 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at Yntema Funeral Home, 251 South State Street, Zeeland. The memorial service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Third Christian Reformed Church, 10 West Central Avenue, Zeeland. Private committal service will be in Pilgrim Home Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in his name to Zeeland Christian Schools, Bibles for Mexico, or Christian Reformed World Missions for the ministry of his grand-daughter, Ruth Lemmen.
