Virginia Faudree Warren, loving mother and long time resident of Norman, died October 11, 2006, at the age of 89. She passed away in Norman Regional Hospital with family by her side.
Virginia worked at the J.D. McCarty Center from 1961 until her retirement in 1979. Her years there were filled with special memories of children that she loved and cared for in the center.
Virginia was born on September 30, 1917, in Atoka, Oklahoma, where her father worked in construction building homes and businesses. She was the fifth of nine children born to Henry Osceola Faudree and Frances Marguerite Derichswiler Faudree.
She attended school in Atoka, Oklahoma, graduating valedictorian of her class. She married Walter W. Warren, school administrator, on December 18, 1938. They lived in Atoka, Wilburton, Talihina, and moved to Norman, in 1961, to be close to the University of Oklahoma so their children could pursue higher education. She thoroughly enjoyed having children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews over to her home while each was attending the University of Oklahoma. She was proud of the accomplishments of each and provided many meals and family
gatherings for her "students". She often said, "There's always room at the table for one more."
She was gifted with bringing out the best in everyone she touched.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters, three brothers and her husband of 53 years, Walter. Survivors include her sister, Kathryn Camp, of Atoka, Oklahoma, daughter and son-in law, Jane and Jerry Bias of Norman, two sons, Edward O. Warren, Capt. USN Ret.,
and his wife, Judith Warren, Ph.D., of Plattsmouth, NE, Ray E. Warren, MD, and his wife, Patti, of Kingwood, TX. Grandchildren are Allison Bias, of Ft. Worth, Texas, Tanya Warren, of Ft. Worth, Texas, Eric Warren and his wife, Cathy, of Houston, Texas, Kelly Gallagher and her husband, Dennis, of Leesburg, Virginia, Lindy Winter, MD, Maj. USAF, and her husband, James, of Okinawa, Japan. Great-grandchildren include Ryan, Andrew, and Meghan Gallagher,
and Kyle and Zachary Winter. She is also survived by loved nieces and nephews, special friends at Arbor House, Steven Gillies, her longtime neighbor and friend, and her caring physician, Dr. Joe Riddle.
Her service will be held at 1: 30 P.M. on Friday, October 13, 2006, at Havenbrook Funeral Home Chapel in Norman with Reverend Randy Wade officiating. Burial will follow at
Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in Norman. Services are under the direction of Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman, Oklahoma.
