She was born March 22, 1893, in Coles County, a daughter of James A. and Rebecca Gough Ashmore. She married Brent A. Bennett in Douglas County. He died in 1954.
Survivors include one son, Robert Bennett of Chrisman; one daughter, Mrs. Harold (Dorothy) Townsend of Shelbyville; 16 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Bennett was a member of the Kansas Christian Church, Kansas American Legion Auxiliary in which she held several offices, and she served as Poppy Day chairman for more than 50 years.
