Earl R. Ashmore, 69, formerly of Oakland, died Saturday night at his home in Alton. He had been in ill health for the past three years.

Masonic rites were held on Monday evening at the Marrow and Quinn Funeral home at Alton, after which the body was brought Tuesday morning to the Taber Funeral Home in Oakland.

Services were conducted on Tuesday at 2 p.m.in the Methodist Church in Oakland. Rev. Earl Snider officiated. Mrs. Bettye Bennett sang "God Understands" and "Beyond the Sunset," accompanied by Mrs. J. B. Hanner, organist.

Burial was in the Oakland Cemetery.

Mr. Ashmore was born September 30, 1888, near Oakland, a son of James and Rebecca Ashmore. He married Muriel Arney of Brocton, where he was janitor at the high School until 1933, when they moved to Alton. Mr. Ashmore had retired as a field man for a steel company.

Surviving are his wife; four sons, Wayne of Hammond, IN, John of Cedar Rapids, IA, James and Charles of Alton; two daughters, Mrs. Evelyn White of Stamping Ground, KY, and Mrs. Ruby Holder of Alton; three sisters, Mrs. Dollie Foltz of Upton, WY, Mrs. Olive Weaver of Wessington Springs, SD, and Mrs. Winona Bennett of Kansas; two brothers, Frank of Springfield, SD and John of Oakland; four grandchildren; and his mother-in-law, Mrs. Sarah Arney of Oakland. Two sons preceded him in death.

Mr. Ashmore was a member of Franklin Lodge, AF & AM, and the Consistory at East St. Louis.
