From an undated Seymour Leader clipping:
"Elizabeth B. Criswell was born in Marshall county, W. Va., May 17, 1833, and died at her home in Jerome October 23, 1905, at the age of 72 years, 5 months 9 days.
"She came to Iowa in 1844 locating near Keokuk came to Appanoose county 1851 where she lived until her death.
"On August the 2nd, 1855 she was united in marriage to James Hagan, who died July 20, 1903. She was the mother of six children, two sons and four daughters. Five children, Mrs. Hawkins, Mrs. Crouch, Mrs. Ogle, Will and John Hagan, living in Jerome, are left to mourn her departure. One daughter preceded her to the grave.
"In 1869 she united with the Methodish Episcopal church and had been a faithful member. Of late years she had not taken as active a part as formerly on account of sickness but she never lost faith in Jesus as per personal Savior.
"Though she had been sick for some time the final summons came rather suddenly. Her memory will long be cherished by her children and friends.]
"Funeral services were held at Jerome October 25, conducted by Rev. George Blagg assisted by Rev. M. T. Butterfield. The remains were laid away in the Jerome cemetery."
