Ludolph Edward Meenen, Sr. was born in Wilmelmshaven, Germany on March 16, 1872 and was baptized in the Lutheran Church. The family came to this country in 1884 and settled in the Riverdale Community south of Clifton, Kansas, where he lived until his death, July 7, 1965.
He was united in marriage to Louise Alberta Benninga, Nov 18, 1893. She preceded him in death on February 26, 1950. To this union was born eight children of whom four survive; Mrs. Anna Clevenger (Charles), Fritz (EmmaBelle), Ludolph, Jr, and Edward (Bertha). Those preceding him in death were Friedrich, Helen, Gertrude, and Bertha. He was the last of five brother. His only sister preceded him six months ago.
He made farming his occupation and took great pride in raising commercial Shorthorn cattle. He has been in partnership, farming and raising livestock with his two sons, Ludolph, Jr. and Edward in his later years. This spring he was honored with a plaque "In Recognition of Meritorious Service to Shorthorns since 1894" by the Kansas Shorthorn Association.
He was a devoted father who family always came first. He loved them all-through five generations. Besides his four children, fifteen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild survive.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, July 10, 1965 at 10:00 A.M. from Turner's Chapel. The Rev. Vernon Bowman officiated. Interment was in the Riverdale Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Roy White, Vic Sorrell, Harold Weber, Henry Tillinghast, William Amstein, Jr. and Herbert Peterson.
