Peter J. Meenen, 49, a farmer northwest of Fremont several years, died at his home two and one-half miles northwest of the city about noon Tuesday. He had been ill several weeks and only recently returned from Omaha where he had been confined for treatment. Complications affecting his heart were the cause of death.
Mr. Meenen was born in Oldenberg, Germany, May 10, 1880. In 1884 the family came to the United States, locating in Kansas. After finishing high school, he took up the study of veterinary medicine and graduated from the veterinary school of Kansas State College. He then went to Salina, Kans. where he completed a course in the Salina Business college. He later secured a position in the H.K. Mufford Co., Philadelphia, PA.
After four years there he went to Wichita, Kans., with a serum company. After several years in Wichita, Mr. Meenen moved to Shelton, Ne. where he operated a serum company. Twelve years ago he came to Fremont and purchased the farm northwest of the city, which he has since operated.
On September 20, 1910, Mr. Meenen was united in marriage to Miss Zoa M. Hollopeter at Oklahoma City, Okla. He is survived by his wife, one son, Roger, at home; his mother, Mrs. Johanna Henrika Meenen, Clifton, Kan.; three brothers, Ludolph, Fritz, and John of Clifton, Kans.; and one sister, Mrs. Ed Gerriets of Mr. Vernon, Washington.
Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the farm home. Rev. R.V. Gilbert, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church will officiate. Burial will be made in Ridge cemetery.
