Opal Ballard Lay, 80, of Pin Oak Drive, Lancaster, died Wednesday, Dec. 7 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

A native of Madison Co., she was born June 1, 1925 to the late Edward Ballard and Ada Sparks Ballard . She was a weaver for the Palm Beach Co. for over 40 years, a Kentucky Colonel, and a member of Hyattsville Baptist Church and the Garrard County Senior Citizens.

She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Douglas and James Ballard ; and a sister, Dorsie Lee Miller.

Survivors include three brothers, Edward (Barbara) Ballard , Glyndon (Iris) Ballard , and Bobby (Joyce) Ballard all of Paint Lick; one sister, Mary Ruth Speaks of Lexington; six nieces; and eight nephews.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 10 at the Spurlin Funeral Home in Lancaster with Everett Priddy officiating. Burial was in Manse Cemetery in Paint Lick.

Active pallbearers were David Ballard , Patrick Ballard , Tim Ballard , Pat Ray, Steve Propes, and Scott Bolin. Honorary pallbearers were Mike Bolin, Tanya Priddy, Lowania Eden, and Cynthia Bourne.
