Lawana Rogers Ellis, 80, of Screven, GA, passed away on May 18, 2016 after an extended illness. The Wayne County native grew up in Screven, but called Brunswick, GA home for most of her adult life, before returning to Screven in 2001.

Lawana was a 1954 graduate of Screven High School, and a 1968 graduate of Waycross Ware Technical College School of Nursing. She spent most of her nursing career working for Charter By The Sea on St. Simons Island. She was a gifted artist whose paintings have been shown in the South GA area, including Jesup. Lawana loved Southern Gospel Music and counted some of Gospel Music’s greats from the 1950’s as friends. She was a member of Lily Garden Club of Screven, where she served as a past president and a member of Screven United Methodist Church.

Lawana was preceded in death by her husband, Jarvis Ellis, of Screven, her parents, Kent and Maureen (Wimpey) Rogers of Screven, two nephews, Jason Harris of Jesup, Keeny Olliff of K’ville, and Christy Roberts Peavey of Briceville, FL.

Lawana is survived by two daughters, Laurie Shell Kilgore of Orlando, FL, Susan Shell of Jacksonville, FL, one granddaughter, Lauren Kilgore Wilson (Justin) of Atlanta, GA, four sisiters, Sylvia Davis of Waycross, Jonette Roberts of Jacksonville, FL, Carole Marie Clayton (Bill) of Jacksonville, FL, Jeris Harrris (Carl) of Jesup, and one brother, Tony Rogers (Kitty) of Waycross, several nieces and nephews, and other relatives.

Lawana will be remembered by her many friends and family for her fun-loving personality and great sense of humor.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at Howard & Jones Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.
