DUGGAN, John Edward "Poppy" John Edward "Poppy" Duggan, 90, of Atlanta passed away peacefully at home on April 20, 2016. He was born in Red Level, Alabama and grew up in Andalusia. John was the son of Rossie Edehlia Brown and William Robert Duggan and was preceded in death by 7 sisters and 3 brothers. John is survived by his sister, Alice Duggan Everage, and numerous nieces and nephews.

After graduating from high school, John served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. Upon returning home, he graduated from the University of Alabama and moved to Atlanta to work for Arthur Andersen & Co., then briefly with the IRS. As a Certified Public Accountant, he started his own CPA firm. In 1965, he expanded his office and hired Dancy Massey, who later became his partner, and the firm is now known as Duggan & Massey. During a long and respected career as a CPA, John was President of the Lenox Chapter of the Georgia Society of CPAs, member of the Board of Directors and President of the Atlanta Tax Forum, and member of the Board of Directors of the Georgia Society of CPAs.

He was a mentor and influence in people's lives and created "Poppy's Do's and Don'ts on the Job" which will forever remain a treasured family keepsake. Outside of the office, John was an avid fisherman and hunter. He enjoyed many trips with family and friends through the years.

John is survived by his loving wife, Jane, his children Jane Duggan, MD, Wendi McAfee (John), Randi Spivey (Ed), and grandchildren Corley Thomas (Corbin), Andi McAfee, Jack, Charlie, and Will Spivey.

The family is forever grateful that John was lovingly cared for by Mitchell Austin, Jasmine Brown, Scottie Stewart, and DeJon Williams.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 28th at 2:00 PM at Northside United Methodist Church, 2799 Northside Dr., NW, Atlanta, GA 30305, with a reception to follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Northside United Methodist Church or Shepherd Center, 2020 Peachtree Rd., NW, Atlanta, GA 30309.
