Phyllis Clare Hopper
Previously known as Phyllis Morgan Keller

Phyllis Hopper, previously known as Phyllis Keller, 86, of Carmichael, CA, passed peacefully August 10, 2015 in Carmichael.

Phyllis was born in Eugene Oregon September 7, 1928, to Alfred and Helen Morgan. She graduated from the University of Oregon in 1950. She lived most of her life in Carmichael, California. Phyllis was happily married to Bruce Keller for 56 years before his passing in 2006. Together they had 3 children, Lyn, Kay and Bryce. Bruce and Phyllis were active participants in their community, including the Parkinson Association. They loved to entertain, and enjoyed friends and family in their home. Phyllis and Bruce loved to take their family camping and boating. The great-grandchildren remember ice cream with Grandma, making cookies together and enjoying other Grandma activities.

Phyllis continued to be active with her sorority (Delta Gamma) and P.E.O. Sisterhood organization throughout her adult life.

In 2008 Phyllis married Richard Hopper. They enjoyed 7 great years together mostly staying in Oak Harbor, Washington. Rich and Phyllis knew each other growing up in Eugene Oregon and both attended the University of Oregon.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her 1st husband of 56 years, Bruce, and her sister, Mildred. She is survived by her brother Gerald M., her husband Richard Hopper and her children, daughters Lyn, Kay and son Bryce; 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

At this time, there are no services planned and or scheduled.

In her own words Phyllis wrote the following in 1994:

I was born in 1928, the third and youngest child of Alfred and Helen. Our Mother died when I was almost eight years old and my Dad was only 51. My Dad was a gentle man and exceptional to keep our family together and happy with long working hours and a small income. His friends all called him A. J. In my eyes he could do anything… repair cars, cook, fix appliances or radios, build anything, sew, knit, fish, hunt, can food , and be there when I needed him! My big sister has always been very special to me. From the time I was small she has showered me with lots of affection and caring. Of course, now I am bigger than she is.

I also had the good fortune to have the type of big brother girls dream about. He protected me, invited me to join the boys on skiing trips and included me in his fraternity and social affairs. My Brother could do NO wrong in my eyes.

I had a wonderful time growing up… many friends, honors, a devoted family, a love of school and the outdoors. Our Dad often took us camping and we even built a boat in our basement, a project of several years.

The month after graduation from the University of Oregon in 1950, I married Bruce M. Keller. Lyn was born the next year in 1951, Kay in 1954 and Bryce in 1956. Our life circled around these three young children … school activities, Blue Birds, Camp Fire, Scouting, Little League, etc. We did a lot of camping with our children, using the same heavy canvas 9x9 tent that we used to camp in with my Dad. We also had a water-ski boat and the entire family had a lot of fun water skiing and camping. Bruce and I enjoyed snow skiing and our children also learned to enjoy that winter sport.

Delta Gamma Sorority was an important added dimension to my college years and is special to me as an alumna. I have enjoyed serving as a local officer in various alumnae chapters and also served on National Board for 10 years.

P.E.O. is another National organization in which I am always involved.

I feel I have had a wonderful life. I have been blessed with loving and caring immediate and extended family.
