CDR Allan Rothenberg, USN (Ret.), 88, died on October 7, 2006, in Virginia Beach, VA. He was born in Newark, NJ and retired from the US Navy with the rank of Commander in 1961. After his retirement from the Navy he was a stockbroker for 21 years. He was a Navy pilot for 20 years with combat service in WWII at Midway and Guadalcanal. He was awarded the Navy Cross, Silver Star and Distinguished Flying Cross. He was one of the first pilot's to arrive at Pearl Harbor in a PBY. He also was a boxing referee for over 30 years and was involved in 30 championship fights. He served as an auxiliary deputy for the City of Virginia Beach and was vice chairman of the US Olympic Committee. He is survived by his wife, Doris N. Rothenberg; two daughters, Bobbie Jean Catlett and husband William of Bells Island, NC and Casey Jo Scopelliti and husband Joseph of Elizabeth City, NC; son, Kevan Rothenberg of Virginia Beach, VA; sister, Marjorie Smith of Florida; two grandchildren, Chelsea and Brendan Scopelliti of Elizabeth City, NC; two nieces, Cathy Zorn of Coral Gables, FL and Wendy Soltoff of Waban, MA. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 10, 2006, at 10 a.m. in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel by Rev. Ernest L. Trueblood. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens with Military Honors.
