The ships manifest (Cotton Planter) lists Maria as a passenger along with her family arriving in New York on September 29, 1852. I have not been able to determine any further information. I found information on Ancestry.com that indicates Maria died in 1852. An entry in the Norway (Iowa) Centennial Book for Lozenz Brecht (an older brother to Maria) states that "while crossing the Ohio River a younger brother dell overboard and drowned". It would seem more likely that the child who fell in the river was actually Maria as the other Brecht "chidren" can be accounted for. This reference is found in a copy of the "Mathern-Kreber-Brecht Families" book. (I believe this book was the research efforts of Marvel Simpson. The book is a mimeograph copy 240 pages long). Marvel (FAG# 87494738) was the daughter of Lottie Grace Mathern Murty, the daughter of John Philip Mathern, the son of Franklin Joseph and Mary Augusta Brecht Mathern. Mary was a younger sister to Lorenz thus an older sister to Mary Augusta Brecht.
