According to the Ship Manifest, the Cotton Planter arrived in the Port of New York on September 29, 1852 where Philip is listed as Female, age six months. Based on that he would have been born born in Germany, which is his place of birth on later census reports. However if that is the case he would have been born in late March of 1852. If he had been born on August 23, 1852 he would have been born on the ship in the middle of the Atlantic. Numerous others note his birth as August 22, 1851, but that too is unlikely as he would have been a one year old and not six month old on the Ship Manifest. But definitely could not have been born in Germany in 1854 as reported by the other photo on this memorial!
