He was born June 11, 1924 in Monterey to Valentine and Mabel Bitterling Reinhold, Sr. Junior graduated from Monterey High School in 1942, where he met and eventually married his high school sweetheart, Esther, daughter of Peter and Eva Sturm Mack. They were married on September 23, 1944 in the Methodist Church Parsonage in Winamac. They celebrated their 71st anniversary in 2015. Esther survives. They were never far from each other.
