Jess was a 1943 graduate of Linlawn High School. He married Bessie Frank in Wabash on September 29, 1944. He was a farmer, drove school bus 14 years for the Metropolitan School District of Wabash County, and drove a gas truck for Farm Bureau. Jess was a member of Asbury Country Church, and a 25 year member of the Wabash Lions Club. He participated in the National Horseshoe Pitching Contest, winning several times. He was an avid golfer and loved his family. Jess lived at Bickford Cottage since February 2015.
