Richard A. Whicker, 70, Hamilton., died Thursday at 2:25 a.m. in Fort Hamilton Hospital, after an extensive illness. He bad been hospitalized several times and had been seriously ill the past week. He was born March 30, 1892 in Travelers Rest, Ky., a son of Newell and Mary Jane Capps Whicker. He was educated in the public schools of Owsley County, Ky., and came to Hamilton in 1910. Mr. Whicker was employed as a crane operator at Baldwin-Lima of Hamilton, retiring in 1957. He married Effie Stivers in Travelers Rest, Ky., and she preceded him in death in 1939. In 1939 he then married Martha Hollingsworth in Manchester, Ky., and she died in December 1964. Mr. Whicker was an ardent fan of the Cincinnati Reds, enjoyed fishing, hunting and reading. He was devoted to his home and family.
Mr. Whicker leaves three, sons, Allen (Joe) Whicker, Tite Whicker, Hamilton, and Robert Eugene Whicker, Kentland, Ind.; 29 grandchildren; three step grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death, by his parents; his two wives; one daughter, Effie Whicker; four sons, Z. J., Dorsey, Tony and Richard Whicker; nine brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. in the Pilgrim Holiness Church, New Miami, where Mr. Whicker will lie in state from 9 a.m. until services begin, with Rev Boyd Schell, officiating. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday in the Klaus-Weigel Funeral Home, Elvin Ave, Hamilton. Burial will be in Millville Cemetery. Pallbearers are Charles Clay, James Burns, Daniel Bowman, Richard Whicker, R. A. Whicker and Earl Whicker.
