Mary V. Nowels, Long Resident, Taken by Death
Mrs. Mary V. Nowels, who resided at 723 South Victoria Ave., died at the Arlington Sanitarium this morning following a prolonged illness. She was 78.
Golden Anniversary
Mrs. Nowels, born Jan. 25, 1879, came to Corona with her husband Marvin, in 1902, from Colorado Springs, Colo. The couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1952. Mr. Nowels preceded his wife in death in September 1954. Mrs. Nowels was a charter member of Sunnyside Camp 4507, Royal Neighbors of America and had received her 50 year membership pin in July of last year. She was also a member of St. John's Episcopal Church and the Charles E. Dixon Camp, Spanish-American War Veterans Auxiliary.
Her sole surivor is a sister, Mrs. Helen Copen of Arlington, Va.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at St. John's Episcopal Church by the Rev. Nichols Kouletsis. Interment wll follow at Sunnyslope Cemetery with the Bellthomas Mortuary handling arrnagements. It has been requestd that in lieu of flowers donations may be made to the St. John's Episcopal Church Memorial Fund.
Friends may call at the mortuary after 5 p.m. tomorrow.
The family history for George Washington Nowels indicates that Marvin married "Mary Moore" however the California Death Index indicates that Mary's father's name was Brown and her mother's maiden name was Butler. I have been unable to locate her prior to her marriage to Marvin Nowels in 1901.
