Robert Scott McMinn, age 82, of Alliance, passed away at 11:45 p.m. Sunday, January 31, 2010 at Alliance Community Hospital.
He was born May 30, 1927 in Alliance, to Robert C. and Elsie C. (Lane) McMinn and was a lifelong Alliance resident.
A 1945 graduate of Alliance High School, Robert was employed as a carpenter for Local Union 69 and Local Union 639 in Akron until his retirement. A member of First Immanuel United Church of Christ since 1955, he formerly served as a Deacon and Elder of the church as well as singing in the Chancel Choir. A member of the Washington Ruritans with 40 years of perfect attendance, he formerly served as past president and later served at Lt Governor and Governor of Ruritans in Ohio. He also volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and for Meals on Wheels.
Robert served in the United States Navy during World War II on the USS Tarawa.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley (Flickinger) McMinn of Alliance whom he married August 6, 1955; son, Michael S. (Tami) McMinn of Green; two daughters, Melanie S. (Gary) McMinn-Duvall of Louisville and Beth A. (Scott) McMinn-Bryant of Alliance; five grandchildren; and a sister, Gay Gantz of Alliance.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents; one brother William M. McMinn in 1938; sister, Mary Elizabeth Bard; and an infant sister.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 13, 2010 at First Immanuel United Church of Christ with Pastor Neal Mann officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park.
