Age 79, daughter of the late Lee E. and E. Lucille MacKintosh Bemiss. Shirley graduated from North East High School. She formerly was a 1st responder at Welch Foods, and was then employed as a relief operator for over 30 years, until retirement in 1998. Shirley was a member of the Genealogical Society and the Erie Historical Society.
In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her brother, Glenn Bemiss.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Allen D. Thompson, whom she married April 20, 1953; sons, Patrick Thompson (Janice) of North East, David Thompson (Mary) of Oil City, Michael Thompson (Kim) of North East; sister, Gayle Duffy (Barry) of Ellenton, Fla.; brothers, Gary Bemiss of Mayville and John Bemis of Angola, N.Y.; former daughter-in-law, Renee Ewing Thompson; 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Interment, Grahamville Cemetery.
