James J. Moore, More familiarly known within his wide circle of friends as Colonel Moore, died at his temporary home, 230 North Ninth street, on November 8, aged 68 years. He was born near Willow Grove, Montgomery County in 1831. Colonel Moore was a Civil engineer by trade, having been connected with several large corporations in western states, central and south America. He was particulary prominent with the Northern Pacific Railroad during its construction. Colonel Moore was general superintendent of the military railroads in the state of Virginia during the civil war. He had in his connection with various enterprises in this country become connected with many prominent men, such as Colonel A. K. McClure and the late Frank Thompson, of the Pennsylvania Railroad. Colonel Moore leaves one son, J. j. Moore, Jr. The funeral services were conducted on November 11, by Rev. N. L. Upham, a retired Presbyterian clergyman, at the residence of his son, 4163 Leidy Avenue. Interment took place at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Andrew J. Bair & Son, Nineteenth & Filbert streets, funeral directors, had charge.
