OBIT:

William Cornelius Seavey, 80, one of the first hop growers in this section of the country, died Sunday at his home, 579 East Broadway. He was born in Lane County, April 7, 1860, and was the eldest son of Alexander and Sarah Seavey, Lane County pioneers.

He raised hops on his father's homestead on the McKenzie and lived on the Mohawk for 40 years, retiring 10 years ago to move to Eugene. He married Belle Hammitt on December 29, 1888.

Besides his widow, Mr. Seavey is survived by one son, Lee Seavey of Mohawk, eight grandchildren, Donald, Billy, Walter, Wayne, Barbara, Gladys, Harold and Dale; a sister, Mrs. Clara Wassom of Coburg, three brothers, James W., John H.. and Jesse A., all of Eugene.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. from the Veatch Chapel, Dr. S. E. Childers officiating. Interment will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery.
