He had many pleasant memories of uncles, aunts and cousins from the Star, Biscoe, and Liberty areas.
He was a member of the 4H club in his early years and had loving memories of growing up in the Ashford North Cove area in McDowell County.
As a member of Troop 1, North Cove Boy Scouts he earned 55 Merit badges in sixteen months and received the Eagle badge at age sixteen while a student at Furman University in Greenville, SC. He earned a B.A. Degree at Furman University and was the youngest member of his freshman class.
A veteran of the U. S. Army, he served during WWII and was wounded in action at Omaha Beach. Among the numerous medals he earned were the Purple Heart and the Fidelity Honor of Efficiency.
After the war he received a B.S. Degree and M.D. from Bowman Gray School of Medicine.
Dr. Allen practiced family medicine for 40 years in Marion, NC.
He loved people and helping others but most of all he loved God.
He was a member of the NC Medical Society, the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American Legion, the VFW, the American Rifle Association, the Mt. Ida Gun Club, the McDowell Ballroom Dance Club, the Marion Lake Club for many years, the Marion Moose Lodge, of which he was a charter member, and he was a member of Nebo United Methodist Church.
He loved music, golf, ballroom dancing, oil painting and bird watching.
Interment: McDowell Memorial Park. Military honors will be provided by a detachment from Fort Bragg.
