Edmond Carlson, 78, of Norman, Oklahoma, passed away Saturday, February 20th, 2016. He was born on September 5, 1937 in Chicago, Illinois to Edmond and Ethel (Garrett) Carlson.
Ed was a dear, sweet man, of great integrity and personal strength. He was a kind, warm, gentle and generous person, loved by his family and many friends. He met the love of his life, Ann Ogden, as a student at San Diego State University where they both earned their Bachelor's Degrees and he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. They were married on August 15, 1959 and celebrated fifty-six years. Ed served in the Air Force Reserve from 1959 - 1961.
Surviving Ed are his wife Ann, his brother Bill and wife Joyce, his three sons, their wives, and seven grandchildren: Andrew & Gretchen Carlson (grandchildren Benjamin & Christine), John & Dawn Carlson (grandchildren Madeline, Claire, & Lucas), and David & Kristi Carlson (grandchildren Dylan & Lauren).
Ed earned a Masters of Business Administration at Pepperdine University and, along with his partners Sal DiMercurio and Patrick Cooney, founded Northstar Properties of Norman in 2004. He was immensely proud of the Northstar family and his many colleagues.
He was quick to credit Jesus as the source of his resilience. Ed was an active member of McFarlin United Methodist Church and his Sunday school class ("GIFT"). He was a founding member and past chair of The McFarlin Foundation.
Ed was a long time sailor and yachtsman, beginning with small then successively larger sailboats named "Windbelle" in the San Diego and San Francisco Bays, and then powerboats named "Madeline Christine" on lakes Thunderbird and Texoma.
He loved to travel with his family and friends. In addition to living and working in Europe for five years, Ed and Ann enjoyed taking their family on adventures all over the world for the past decade.
Ed was active in a variety of other personal and professional activities. As a young man he was a Past Master Councilor in DeMolay; he was a Boy Scout himself and participated in scouting for many years with his three sons; he served as President of his Kiwanis club in Petaluma, CA; was the Rear Commodore of the Tiburon Yacht Club; was active in the noon Rotary Club in Norman; was an active member of Oklahoma City Town Hall; and he held memberships in several property management and real estate groups.
Memorials may be made in memory of Edmond W. Carlson to the Jarvis Parkinson's Research Foundation and The McFarlin Foundation.
