The Huntsville Times, Wednesday, August 8, 1956: David J. Swift's Rites Tomorrow. Funeral services for David J. Swift, 73, will be held tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. from the Union Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. L. C. Reed officiating. Burial will follow at Concord Cemetery. Mr. Swift died this morning at 8:30 o'clock at his home near New Market. The body will remain at Laughlin-Service Funeral Home until the time of the funeral. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Dewey Jacks of New Market; four sons, Leighton Swift and Maurice Swift of Indianapolis, Ivan Swift of Mobile, and Bernard Swift of New Market; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Pallbearers will be J. H. Taylor, Ferrin Tate, Carl Tate, Jim Patterson, Harold Harbin, and Jimmy Bush. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Quick, Alvin Spelce, Orville Spelce, Milton McElyea, Will Tate, Jim Tate, Rice Spelce and Floyd Jones.
