Native of Woodruff; son of William Bartlett Abercrombie (1869–1961) and Lida Elizabeth "Ida" Willis Abercrombie (1880–1932); husband of Dora Lee Roberts Abercrombie (1914–1971) and Eloise Jarrett Edge Abercrombie (1923–1997).
Member of Emma Gray Memorial United Methodist Church, the Joy Club, and served as Financial Secretary for a number of years; retired Postmaster of Woodruff, SC with over 35 years of service with the U.S. Postal Service; was an amateur radio operator, call sign K4DNV; lifetime member of Bethel Masonic Lodge; V.F.W.; former member of the American Legion; and a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served in combat during WWII in the South Pacific.
Survivors include a special friend, Bea Bartley; son, James Henry Abercrombie, Jr. (1937–2014); stepson, Lewis A. Edge; stepdaughter, Eileen Hampton; sister, Frances A. Thompson; four grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation was from 6:00-8:00 pm, Friday, March 7, 2003, at Forest Hills Funeral Home.
Funeral Services were held at 3:00 pm, Saturday, March 8, 2003, at Emma Gray Memorial United Methodist Church in Woodruff, conducted by Rev. Robert Boggs and Dr. Lynwood Jordon; burial was in Greenhaven Memorial Gardens.
Memorials could be made to the building fund of Emma Gray Memorial United Methodist Church, Woodruff, SC.
