Wilma Carter Meeks, 86, died Sunday afternoon (February 14, 2016) at Baptist Village Retirement Communities following a brief illness.

She was a native and life-long resident of Ware County. She was married to the late Clyde W. Carter, Sr. until his death in 1958 and later married Guy W. Meeks until his death in 2013. She was also preceded in death by her mother Emmie Crews Tatum, a son, Clyde W. Carter, Jr., a grandson Michael Bryant, and a great grandson Kyle Perkins. She was also preceded in death by her siblings: Lonnie Tatum, Ernie Tatum, J.T. Tatum, Math Tatum, Cleve Tatum, D.L. Tatum, Freddie Cox, Kelly Renfroe, Hazel Taylor, and Katie Barker.

She worked many years as an Emergency Room Nurse with the Ware County Hospital and later retired from the Ware County System as a Parapro at Emerson Park and Wacona Elementary Schools after many years of service.

Mrs. Meeks was a life-long member of Gilchrist Park United Methodist Church where she had served many years as secretary and taught in the Children's Department Sunday School.

Survivors include three daughters, Linda G. Bryant (husband Bobby) of Waycross, Patsy Bohanon (husband Otis) of Brantley County, and Susan Fowler (husband Mark) of Pierce County; eight grandchildren and several great and great great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the staff of Baptist Village Retirement Communities for the excellent care received by Mrs. Meeks while a resident.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday (February 17, 2016) at the Music Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Kettle Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 AM Wednesday at the funeral home.
