Shirley Jenkins, age 76, of Ulen, Minnesota, died Saturday, April 25, 2015, in Viking Manor Nursing Home, Ulen.
Shirley Jo Anne Jenkins was born May 5, 1938, the daughter of John and Verna (Tope) Jenkins in Hutchinson, Kansas, where she grew up and attended school. Upon completion of high school, Shirley went on to further her education at a business college. For most of her working career, Shirley was employed as an auditor and a bookkeeper as well as various positions in the banking industry. She made her home in Moorhead, Minnesota, for several years. In May of 1994, Shirley became a resident of the Viking Manor Nursing Home due to poor health, where she had made her home since.
While living at the Viking Manor, Shirley was known to everyone as a very pleasant and friendly person that residents enjoyed visiting with. Shirley had a passion for cats and loved when someone would bring one to the nursing home to visit. Over the years, Shirley was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and also enjoyed watching auto racing, whether on television or in person. Other favorite pastimes included watching nature, playing bingo, doing crafts, reading, baking, playing cards and participating in singing groups.
Shirley is survived by a sister, Jacinta Davis of Lawrence, Kansas and a brother, John (Barbara) Jenkins of Windom, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter, Ann, and a brother. A Memorial Service was held on Thursday, May 7, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. in Viking Manor Nursing Home, Ulen. Officiating was Pastor Mike Rueckert with Susan Green serving as pianist.
