Darrell Edward Sturgill

NORTON, VA - Darrell Edward Sturgill, 69, died Friday, January 22, 2016 at Wellmont Holston Valley Hospital in Kingsport.

Darrell was a UMWA coal miner, retired from Westmoreland Coal Company and Cumberland River Coal. He loved to hunt and fish, but, most of all, he loved his church family. He was a member of the Deliverance Fellowship Church and also attended the Laurel Grove Community Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jonas and Bessie (Hubbard) Sturgill, and a sister Linda Barnette.

Surviving are his wife, Glenda Sturgill, his children (and their spouses): Tammy (Edwin) Haney, Darrell (Lisa) Torrey, Rebecca Shook, and Michael (Antoinette) Shook; his grandchildren: John Shook, Chris Laurain, Stephen Shook, Emily Shook, Misty (Joe) Harriget, Alicia (Will) Lance, Megan (Kevin) Watkins, Darrell (Ashton) Torrey, Billy Torrey, and Jesse Torrey; 12 great grandchildren, his brothers and sisters: Raymond (Karen) Sturgill, Denita Sturgill (Jamie) Boggs, Gary Sturgill, and Wilma Holmes.

Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Sturgill will be taken to Powell Valley Memorial Gardens for committal and burial services.
