Mrs. Helen Darr Hoover, 89, formerly of E. Center St.., and a resident of Alston Brook, died Saturday, January 23, 2016 at the Henry Etta & Bruce Hinkle Hospice House.

She was born on October 15, 1926 in Davidson County, NC to Jacob Milton Darr and Hallie Conrad Darr.

She worked for many years in the banking industry as a teller with State Commercial and NCNB and retired from Davidson County School System, where she was a teacher’s assistant at Fair Grove Elementary School. She was a member of Calvary United Church of Christ, where she sang in the choir, was a longtime Sunday school teacher, and active in the Willing Worker’s Sunday School Class.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Edwin Hoover on April 25, 2013, whom she married on January 20, 1952; one brother; and six sisters.

Surviving are her daughters, Anita H. Connell and husband Randy of Thomasville and Marcia H. Coatta and husband John of Minnetonka, MN; son, Ernie Hoover and wife Kim of Thomasville; adopted son, William Gaddy of Thomasville; grandchildren, Jessica Connell, Sam Coatta, Trevor Connell and wife Amanda, Ashley Hoover, Annie Coatta, Emily Hoover, Max Coatta, and Brittany Hoover; brother-in-law, Dewey Berrier of Thomasville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 28, 2016 at 3:00 pm at Calvary United Church of Christ. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
