John has a marker at Memorial Park Cemetery, Oklahoma City with his first wife, but Memorial Park says he is not buried there, he is buried with his second wife in Parkland Cemetery.

Brother John Emmitt Whitfield, Jr. went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, January 22nd, 2016 at his home in Guthrie at the age of 85.

He was born in Wharton, TX. to John and Blen Whitfield on January 16th, 1931.
He and his five sisters and two brothers attended Putnam City Schools in Oklahoma City.

He graduated from high school in 1950, and at the age of 19, he joined the US Navy and served in the Philippine Islands. After the navy, he married Carol Jean Smith of Seiling, OK. From this union two children were born - Dana Ann and Danny Alan. Carol Jean passed away of cancer.

In 1970, John married Sheila Mitchell. His family grew to include daughters Rhonda and Shelley. From this union Aaron was born.

In John’s younger years, he owned and operated a custom cutting business and would travel from Texas to North Dakota for harvest. Lots of memories were made with friends and family when they would join the Whitfield harvest crew.

John was also a master craftsman in sheet metal and owned a successful business in Guthrie, OK. for many years, until he retired and continued to work on the family farm.

He was preceded in death by his parents John and Blen Whitfield, his first wife, Carol Jean, her parents Glen and Merle Smith, Sheila’s parents Hubert and Bertha Mitchell, his brother Harry, and sisters Ella Nelson, Darlene Tomlinson, and Ina Faulkner.

He is survived by Sheila, his loving wife of 45 years, two sons Danny and wife Nora, Aaron and wife Misty. Three daughters Dana, Rhonda and husband Ronnie Biggs, Shelley and husband Leon Biehler, 12 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, his brother Gerald, sisters Joyce Pyle and Carol Erickson, and a wonderful host of family, brethren and friends.

Funeral Service Tuesday January 26, 2016, 11:00 AM at Church of the First Born. Viewing Monday, January 25, 9am - 9pm
