Sep 7, 1928 - Dec. 20, 2012 PIEDMONT Ella Blen Jones, age 84, of Oklahoma, went home to be with her God on December 20, 2012. She was born to John E. Whitfield and Beulah Blen (Talkington) Whitfield September 7, 1928, in El Campo, TX. Her family moved to Oklahoma City when she was a young child. She and her seven brothers and sisters went to the Putnam City Central School System. The Whitfield Children were known to be very protective of one another. If a child picked on one Whitfield, they picked on all eight. Her mother played the piano in silent movies and met her dad when he came dancing down the theater aisle. Ella married John W. Nelson, Jr. at the age of 17 while John was in the Navy, and had three children. She was preceded in death by her mother; father; brother, Harry Whitfield; daughter, Sandra Blen McAbee; and granddaughter, Charity McAbee. She married a high school friend, William D. Jones, on April 13, 2005, and lived in Piedmont, OK.

Ella was a member of the Church of the First Born for many years and joined the Piedmont United Methodist Church in 2005. She worked in the oil business and was a member of the PBX club and the Desk and Derrick Club. She co-owned the Nelson Construction Company. She loved her flowers and had a beautiful garden for all to enjoy. She was known to have a green thumb. She loved her Pretty Kitty and was kind to animals. She always had treats for her neighbor's dogs, who loved her. She was also known as a great cook and won the Piedmont, OK pie contest in 2006 with her coconut cream pie recipe. The prize was $1,000. Afterward, her family and friends lovingly referred to her pie as the $1,000 coconut cream pie, which gave her great pleasure. Ella Blen dedicated her life to supporting and loving her family. As a sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she was fun, loving, and a great joy! She always remembered birthdays and special occasions with a card and sweet message. Ella Blen was truly an inspiration and shining example to all who knew her! Visitation will be Thursday, 8 a.m. - 9 p.m. at Mercer-Adams. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Mercer-Adams Chapel, Bethany, with burial to follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
