JOSEPH T. ONESI
Joseph T. Onesi, 97, of Pendleton, NY, formerly of Niagara Falls, passed away peacefully Thursday January 14, 2016 in Veterans Administration Medical Center after a brief illness.
He was born in Starford, Pennsylvania, on May 3, 1918 to the late Paul and Mary (Corsaro) Onesi.
During WW II, Mr. Onesi served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Italy.
On December 11, 1939 he married the former Catherine 'Kitty' Lacerenza in Uniontown, PA . She passed away February 6, 2002 in Jacksonville, FL.
A carpenter by trade, Joseph was employed by Carpenters Local # 280 until his retirement in the mid 1970's. Shortly after his retirement, Joseph and Catherine moved to Jacksonville, Florida, where they remained until Catherine's death.
In 2009, Mr. Onesi was named 'Special Citizen' by the Pine Avenue Business Association at their Annual Italian Festival. Mr. Onesi was a member of the Italian Americans Veterans Association and a former member of Prince of Peace Church.
After his retirement, Mr. Onesi, was an avid NY Yankees fan and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his three children, Joyce (Edwin) Harris of Pendleton, NY, Paul (Renee) Onesi of Niagara Falls, NY, Rosemary (Wayne) Bloom of New Smyrna Beach, FL; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Kathryn (late Victor) Rotundo, Mary (Richard) DeCorse; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Mr. Onesi was predeceased by his wife, his parents, and three brothers, late John, late Sylvester and late Anthony Onesi.
The family will be present to receive friends Sunday, January 17, 2016 3-8 PM at the SPALLINO-AMIGONE FUNERAL HOME, 1300 Pine Avenue, Niagara Falls where prayers will be said Monday morning at 9:15 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated from Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph Parish at St. Joseph Church, Rev. Joseph C. Dumphrey, OSFS, officiating.
Interment will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lewiston, NY. Family and friends invited.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Joseph's memory to the Alzheimer's Association of WNY or the Rheumatoid Arthritis Association.
