Mrs. Vernice “Trick” Joyce Hutchens, 91, of 2569 West Pine St, Mount Airy, passed away on Sunday morning, January 17, 2016 at her home. Mrs. Hutchens was born in Surry County on June 23, 1924, daughter of the late David Fletcher Sr. and Vallie Watson Joyce. She was a homemaker and a member of Antioch Baptist Church. Surviving are one daughter, Joyce Ann Hutchens of the home; three sons and daughters-in-law, Lonnie Ray and Teresa Hutchens of Pinnacle, Freddie Dean and Sandra Hutchens of North Wilkesboro, and Dale Wayne Hutchens of Mount Airy; one brother, Fletcher “Red” and Frances Joyce of Mount Airy, and one sister, Estelle Gordon of Pinnacle; two sisters-in-law, Lillian Joyce of Pilot Mountain, and Doris Smith of Mount Airy; two brothers-in-law, Roger and wife Elsie Hutchens of Mount Airy and Clifford Brooks of Rural Hall. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, Ben Hutchens, Buffey Moore, Shasta Daughenbaugh, Shad Hutchens, Brianna Marion, Chanyeol Hutchens, Holly Gunter, Ashley Mills, and Missy Stanley; eleven great-grandchildren; and six great great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Hutchens was preceded in death by her parents; by her husband of sixty years, Lonnie J. Hutchens; one daughter, Cathy Sue Hutchens; one great great-granddaughter, Kennedy Brooke Boyette; four brothers, William Alvin Joyce, Jasper Pete Joyce, Carnell “Cotton” Joyce, and Bobby Ray Joyce. Visitation will be at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy on Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at 10:00 AM. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Rusty Reed officiating. Burial will follow at Piney Grove Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Piney Grove Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, PO Box 1022, Mount Airy, NC 27030. Special thanks to Mrs. Hutchens caregiver, Carol Joyce, and also to the staff and nurses at Northern Hospital of Surry County and to the staff and nurses at Novant Health-Forsyth Memorial Hospital.
